Wisconsin’s first modern-day wolf hunt, which started Oct. 15, will continue through the gun deer season, reminds Department of Natural Resources (DNR) officials.

According to the DNR, 24 Vilas County residents, 44 Oneida County residents and 17 Forest County residents were among the 1,160 people who were awarded harvest permits.

Between opening day and Feb. 28, the 1,160 state-licensed hunters and trappers will take to the field, aiming to harvest no more than 201 wolves from a population of more than 850.
