Counterbalance frenzy

By Mary Friedel-Hunt

Thanksgiving Day found me sitting in the emergency room as nurses, doctors and technicians ran tests on my lifelong friend. Ultimately, at midnight, she was admitted.

She and I go back about 42 years and I spend holidays with her family often since Bill died. As I write this on Nov. 25, she is still in the hospital being monitored. Having just undergone surgery for cancer two weeks earlier, she has had a tough time this month. I pray for her and we talk twice a day. I will return as needed.

The day after Thanksgiving I drove from northern Illinois to our home in Spring Green. Because I do not enjoy the noise and speed of the interstates, I took the secondary roads and in so doing, I passed many, many strip malls and gigantic malls. Every single parking lot was packed. I was glad to be in my little car listening to music.

Hello, dear friend, and thank you for the quiet calm and strong faith that accompany your Thanksgiving words. It's early in the morning here, but I am grateful that the grace of God wrapped around me when I read your writing. Be blessed, always.
