Thanksgiving Day found me sitting in the emergency room as nurses, doctors and technicians ran tests on my lifelong friend. Ultimately, at midnight, she was admitted.
She and I go back about 42 years and I spend holidays with her family often since Bill died. As I write this on Nov. 25, she is still in the hospital being monitored. Having just undergone surgery for cancer two weeks earlier, she has had a tough time this month. I pray for her and we talk twice a day. I will return as needed. The day after Thanksgiving I drove from northern Illinois to our home in Spring Green. Because I do not enjoy the noise and speed of the interstates, I took the secondary roads and in so doing, I passed many, many strip malls and gigantic malls. Every single parking lot was packed. I was glad to be in my little car listening to music.
