Letter to the Editor: Families are not bargaining chips. If there is one lesson of the election, it’s that the American people voted for economic fairness. They are working hard to get ahead and deserve a system where everyone pays their fair share. Raising the taxes on the middle-class families would be a devastating blow to our slow but steady recovery. Families with less money in their pockets will not be able to support small businesses that are our single most important source of jobs. There really is no choice, middle-class families should never be bargaining chips. Call Representative Duffy at (855) 585-4251 and let him know he should stand with middle-class families. Thank you, Gail Bloom Rhinelander |

It is not very hard to win an argument with a liberal, simply state the truth, hang through the typical liberal talking points, restate the truth and win the argument.
Merry Christmas to all!!!
Jeff, I hope you will redistribute some of your gifts from Santa to me. It is not FAIR that old Santa has past me over for 20 years now. I guess I am on the naughty list, but that is OK, good old Jeff Laadt will make sure everything is FAIR for all!
If you don't get a gift either, I suggest you send old Jeff a letter about how unfair it was. We could make the day after Christmas, Fairness Day, when old Jeffy Claus redistributes the gifts based on FAIRNESS.
“The Communist Party has members and local organizations all around the country from big cities to small towns. Our members are teachers, students, union shop stewards, peace activists, church leaders, grandparents and more. We have speakers and spokespeople available to give the communist perspective on war and peace, Socialism USA, the economic crisis and political developments.”

You ask a question of FAIRNESS, as I pointed out, life is not fair. Is it FAIR to high income individuals to have more of their money confiscated by your president?
The question of state sales tax goes back to dollar amounts vs. percentage of income that is taxed.
Lower income individuals get taxed at a lower percentage than higher income individuals.
I do believe that we all should be required to pay income taxes to the government for necessary services no matter our income levels. If we all paid income tax, rampant government waste, fraud, and abuse would be scrutinized more closely than it is now saving taxpayer money.
I could also raise my prices, but the oil industry I am in is very competitive and price sensitive. My last option is to lay off workers like our poor underpaid $10,000 employee and others like him. Sure the remaining workers would need to be more productive (my employees do not belong to a union), and the poorly paid $10,000 employee's salary would plummet to ZERO.
The now unemployed worker now becomes a ward of the state and collects his pay from us, the TAXPAYER. Now he has become a leech. Depending upon his host to remain alive.
Which situation is better Jeff? The employee making $10,000/year, or making $0 and depending on the rest of us for his income?
In my example in comment #8, you are correct that me, the evil oil baron paid the most MONEY, however, all 3 paid the exact same amount, 10% of their income.
Now lets say instead of working retail, the third worker is employed by me. I pay him the same wage, $10,000. Your president decides to raise my taxes to 20%. I now pay $200,000 in taxes, therefore reducing my profit. What is an employer to do? What would you do Jeff?
You seem intent on making a point. I'm just not sure what it is. But I'll play along.
The evil rich guy pays $100,000
I pay $10,000
The low wage guy pays $1,000
The winner is....evil rich guy! He pays the most. Of course he still has a tidy sum of $900,000 left over. Not a bad deal. Plenty left for that European vacation.
Me. I've got $90,000 remaining. Still a pretty good deal. I can get by on that.
The poor guy at the bottom. He's got $9,000 left with which to get through the year. Not such a great deal for him.
No "liberal" commentary needed. It's all in the math.
Jeff Laadt
Here is a question I would ask you to answer so I can understand how mixed up your thinking is:
Let's say you are a typical public union employee making $100,000, not including your lavish benefits, per year. I, the evil rich oil baron make $1 million per year. Finally, the third person is an employee of a discount retail store making $10,000 per year.
If the government confiscates 10% of our annual incomes, reluctantly calls it an INCOME TAX, who in the above scenario pays the most?
Who pays the least?
A liberal will not be able to answer this question by just saying, the rich oil baron pays the most, or the retail worker the least, but will explain why this question is somehow flawed. Just wait and see Jeff's response.
To be continued......
Economic Fairness: “When you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everyone” – Barack Obama to “middle class” worker Joe the Plumber.
Gail said:
“If there is one lesson of the election, it’s that the American people voted for economic fairness. They are working hard to get ahead and deserve a system where everyone pays their fair share.”
But here's the lesson those hard working middle class families should have learned before they voted to cut their own throats on November 6:
“Spending on federal welfare benefits, if converted into cash payments, equals enough to provide $30.60 per hour, 40 hours per week, to each household living below poverty.”
Conversely, “The median household hourly wage is $25.03. After accounting for federal taxes, the median hourly wage drops to between $21.50 and $23.45.
State and local taxes further reduce the median household’s hourly earnings.
Cont. below:
By contrast, welfare benefits are not taxed.”

The people in the videos below are the ones Gail should have on her mind the next time she’s “working hard to get ahead.” Not the honest, hardworking top 2% who make more than Obama’s $250,000 threshold but pay almost 50% of the federal income taxes. (for the record, that income is nowhere close to mine)
Even though this video is from about 15 – 20 yrs. ago – human nature never changes.

This is current – all segments are equally good but my favorite is the Lumbee Tribe in part two.

End.
Despite your reluctant admission that we "leeches" do, in fact, pay taxes, you remain fixated on only one -- the federal income tax. Perhaps it may come as a surprise, but that tax is based upon -- guess what -- income! If you have more income, you pay more tax. It's really quite simple.
Let me ask you this. Is it fair that income over about $110,000 is not subject to the Social Security payroll tax? Or that state sales taxes take a much higher bite out of the low-income worker than the millionaire?
But what do I know. I'm just one of them liberal elites.
Jeff Laadt
P.S. I'm willing to ignore your insults. But you really should apologize to Gail.
