|Asks ice fishermen to keep lakes clean|
Letter to the Editor:
All I want for Christmas is clean lakes.
I enjoyed a sunny February afternoon last year on the ice with my husband while he fished on one of our local lakes. As the sun began to set, I started walking back to our car on shore.
Others had been ice fishing that day also. The treat of feeling the warmth of the winter sun was suddenly forgotten as I approached the holes where a family fished with their truck beside them earlier in the day. Soda cans and candy wrappers littered the ice.
In disgust I picked up their trash. Where did those people think their garbage would go once the ice melted? Was it that difficult to pick it up and take it home in their truck? What kind of lesson were they teaching their children?
Please clean up after yourself when you ice fish this season. Let’s keep our North Woods lakes clean, not only for our enjoyment but for generations to come!
