Volker Marschall of Munich, Germany, died Thursday, May 31, 2012, at his home. He was 85.
Mr. Marschall was born Oct. 23, 1927, in Milwaukee.He attended high school in Eagle River. He studied music in Chicago, Ill., then received a Fulbright scholarship to study at the Academy of Music Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, for two years.
He met his wife, Anna Maria, in Salzburg.
Mr. Marschall sold encyclopedias to American soldiers for two years, then worked with an American designer and eventually developed his own business.
An accomplished cellist, he played chamber music until his death.
A world traveler, he spent two months each year in Eagle River.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years; three sons, Claus of Gratz, Austria; Marcus of Munich; and Alexander of Darmstadt, Germany.
