Flight was Oldenburg’s final tribute

Ken Oldenburg, a former  resident of St. Germain who served his country during World War II, was paid his final tribute when he went on the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. on April 28, 2012.

His daughter, Jan Knecht, accompanied him on the flight as his escort.

Oldenburg enlisted in the military at age 18 after graduating from Horlick High School, married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Keller, then went off to war.  Oldenburg served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-’45 as a Seabee. He was stationed in the Marshall Islands.
