Sigurd T. Hegland, age 89, of Hiles, passed away Dec. 27, 2012, at AGI Healthcare Center in Crandon. He was born on Aug. 29, 1923, in Cloquet, Minn., to Peder and Ella (Jorgensen) Hegland. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.He married Joyce Halverson on June 3, 1949, at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Racine. Sigurd worked for W.H. Pugh Oil Co. for more than 40 years as an office manager and accountant. Joyce and Sigurd moved to Hiles in 1989. He enjoyed fishing, skiing, was an avid Badger and Packer fan, a woodcarver and he enjoyed singing in the church choir. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Three Lakes. He was proud of his Norwegian heritage. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; children, Peder (Marilyn Peitso), Daniel and Sonia (John) Murnane; grandchildren, Hailey, Robyn and Matthew Hegland, Sean (Ashley) Murnane, Tara (Tim) Kelly and Casey Murnane; great-grandchildren, Logan and Esme Murnane; sister, Helen Singer; brother-in-law, Elmo (Marian) Halverson. Further survived by many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Ella and Peder; and brother-in-law, Gilbert Singer. Visitation was held Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Faith Lutheran Church in Three Lakes. Funeral service followed, officiated by Pastor Mary WeinÂkauf. Interment will be in Hiles Cemetery.
