Public employee ready to sacrifice PDF Print E-mail

Letter to the Editor:

I just wanted to let the hard-working taxpayers in the North Woods know that not all of us (public employees) view things in the same manner as those who have been writing in recently.

I am very grateful for the job that I have, and try my best every day to ensure that my employer is getting its money’s worth. I have no illusions about the hard times that are facing those working in the private sector these days and fully realize that at the end of the day, my employment ultimately depends on their success.

In good times, local governments added services, built new schools and offered extremely generous compensation packages to their employees.

We cannot continue to spend money that we don’t have, and must look past ourselves and our own needs to the greater needs of the communities we in the public sector profess to serve.

Our friends in the private sector have sacrificed plenty over the last five years. I believe it is time for us (public workers) to consider the possibility that we must do the same, and make our fair share of sacrifice for the greater good of the community.
