Need to close tax loopholes PDF Print E-mail

Dear Editor:

Some members of Congress, once again, are demanding benefit cuts to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, and threatening to damage our economy by causing a default of the U.S. government on March 1, unless they get their way.

They pulled the same stunt last summer and made the U.S. Congress the laughing stock of the world.

We must stand up to this bullying and spread the word that closing the tax loopholes for Wall Street firms, corporations which send jobs abroad, and the richest 2% of Americans is what we should be doing in Washington — not making dangerous budget cuts which threaten the livelihoods of 98% of all Americans through decreased Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid benefits.

Closing these loopholes would generate enough revenue to prevent painful cuts to these much-needed services.

Please call or write your representatives in Washington today. Tell them to stand up for the majority of Americans and to stop cow-towing to the super-rich.

Thank you for your consideration of this important issue.
