| ATVs would benefit Three Lakes area |

Letter to the Editor: We believe that having all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and utility vehicle (UTV) routes in Three Lakes would be a plus to our town. With the winters the way they have been the last few years, we feel these routes would have a real impact. We are a tourist community and depend a lot on bringing people to our area. This would really help during the slow times in the spring and fall. It would also be great in the winter when our snow is sparse. Also, we have a lot of the summer people who head south for the winter, which means they are not here putting money into our economy.Besides, not everyone enjoys the same thing. As an example, we have miles of bike trails, but we very seldom see people on them. However, if that is what they enjoy, then we don’t see why the same consideration should not be given to ATV/UTV users for their enjoyment. There are miles of trails around us and no way to get to them. We have seen pictures from Michigan with ATVs and UTVs parked at motels because they have gone on overnight trips. The Three Lakes Nicolet ATV Club has spent a lot of time and done many hours of research, so they would be able to inform the community about the benefit of these routes. It appears some in the community would rather cut off their nose to spite their face.
I guess next winter, plan to head to the U.P. ATV's and the money that follows are always welcome there.
I also believe that opening up ATV trails in the Three Lakes area would be beneficial to the local restaurants and economy. Who wants to trailer all the way down to Harrison Hills and head back the same day. The Nicolet forest is right in our own back yard. Lets use it more often. Good luck at the meeting. Pat
