In a special meeting last week, the Eagle River City Council approved purchase of a new sport utility vehicle (SUV) for the police department and accepted quotes for security cameras with the costs covered by a state grant.

Police Chief Mark Vander Bloomen had requested a four-wheel-drive vehicle for winter snow and ice conditions, providing quicker and safer travel compared to the department’s regular squad cars.

Two quotes were submitted that Vander Bloomen said met the department’s specifications.

“We have a package from Parsons of Eagle River for $30,500 for a Chevy Tahoe and a package
