Peoples State Bank challenge nets $13,204 for area pantries

For the fourth straight year, Peoples State Bank offered its community challenge to raise food and funds for area pantries, and the effort netted $13,204 for three food pantries and a hunger group.

The Vilas Food Pantry received a donation of $1,683. Other recipients included Rhinelander Area Food Pantry and Lakeland Food Pantry. Donations collected in the greater Wausau area went to the Marathon County Hunger Coalition.

The bank proposed a funds-matching challenge during December, asking community members to drop off nonperishable food items or monetary donations at any Peoples location.
