Vilas County Sheriff

A total of 291 complaints were entered by Vilas County Sheriff’s Department dispatchers last week.

In addition to those with sufficient detail to report be­low, a review shows at least 20 vehicle accidents, one request for an ambulance, three animal problems, four requests for agency assistance, three at­tempts to locate, 13 burglar alarms, 15 requests for citizen assistance, one report of criminal damage to property, three reports of domestic violence, seven re­ports of hazardous conditions, one report of fraud, two fires, two disturbances, six reports of suspicious circumstances, five thefts, one threat, five traffic violations, four welfare checks, 14 911 hang-ups, one report of operating while intoxicated, one drug problem and two snowmobile violations.

At least 12 calls were re­ferred to the Eagle River Police De­partment and there were at least 10 informational or procedural entries.

In the past week, at least 11 people were booked at the Vilas County Jail, including one for disorderly conduct, two for failure to appear, four for operating while intoxicated, one for probation violation, two for battery and one for theft.

During the week, the in­mate population ranged from 59 to 65. As of Jan. 28, there were 60 inmates.


Thursday, Jan. 24

- 10:09 a.m. - A one-vehicle accident was reported on Highway K near Keego Road in Boulder Junction involving Emma C. Derber of Presque Isle.

- 10:15 a.m. - A two-vehicle accident was reported on Highway 45 near Evergreen Road in the town of Lincoln involving Dawn A. Steinhaus of Three Lakes and Julie Winter-Paez of Eagle River.

- 11:00 a.m. - A one-vehicle accident was reported on Highway S near Clair Fire Road involving Doris M. Kachelhofer of Land O’ Lakes.

- 6:39 p.m. - A one-vehicle accident was reported on Wilderness Trail near Nelson Lake Road in the town of Cloverland involving Jamie E. Tidball of Eagle River.


Three Lakes Police

This police department re­ported three vehicle accidents, three alarms, one request for agency assistance, one death investigation, one disturbance, one fire, one gas drive-off, one mental commitment, three services, one snowmobile violation, two suspicious circumstances, two traffic stops, one instance of trespassing and one vehicle in the ditch.
