Gale M. Thomas of Sayner passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. He was 85.

Gale was born Nov. 7, 1927, at home in Sayner, to parents Floyd H. Thomas Sr. and Violet M. (Greisinger) Thomas.

Gale joined the Army at  age 25 and served as a cook for two years.

After the Army he split his time between work in Milwaukee and coming back to Sayner to help his mother run the family resort on West Plum Lake.

He met his future wife, Judy Dejanovich, while she was vacationing in Sayner. They were married on Sept. 11, 1965, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sayner, the first couple to wed in the new church.

Gale and Judy moved to Sayner in 1966. Gale worked for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources until his retirement in 1989.

Gale and Judy hosted many gatherings of friends and family over the years, as Gale was especially known for his homemade pizzas and barbecued ribs.

Gale was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Darrell.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; brothers, Floyd (Eileen) Thomas Jr. of Lakeville, Minn. and Jim (Bonnie) Thomas of Sayner; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Gale was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. He liked to fish and hunt.

He enjoyed playing basketball with his nieces and nephews.

Most of all Gale enjoyed people — family members, friends and Sayner’s many seasonal visitors.

A funeral Mass for Gale will be held at noon on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sayner. Luncheon to follow at St. Mary’s Hall. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.

Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home is serving the family.
