Eighth national pond hockey tourney draws record 342 teams from 30 states

The Labatt Blue USA Hockey Pond Hockey Championships on Dollar Lake in Eagle River attracted a record 342 teams last Friday through Sunday, with teams taking home “national champion” bragging rights in 18 divisions.

The tournament, now in its eighth year, brought in more than 2,400 hockey players who skated on 28 rinks built on the ice of Dollar Lake just east of Eagle River. The skaters came from 30 states and Canada.

During the three-day weekend, with sunny and mild weather Friday and Saturday, teams played more than 600 games, according to Ashley Bevan, senior director of adult hockey for USA?Hockey.
