The Three Lakes Town Board voted 3-1 to pass an ordinance which makes all of its town roads all-terrain vehicle (ATV) routes at its meeting Tuesday night.
Crafting the motion to accept the ordinance proposed by the Three Lakes Nicolet ATV Club at an earlier joint meeting of the town board and Plan Commission was Supervisor Ed Starke.
Supervisor Steve Garbowicz seconded the motion and discussion ensued.
After ammendments were
created requiring all ATV riders to wear helmets and prohibiting those younger than 16 from operating ATVs on routes, the motion carried.
Starke, Garbowicz and Supervisor Jeff Bruss voted in favor of the club’s ordinance.
While both Chairman Don Sidlowski and Supervisor Bill Martineau said they were in favor of establishing an ATV route system in Three Lakes, they both voiced a preference to take more time to plan the details.
Sidlowski cast a dissenting vote on the motion, while Martineau abstained from voting.
Bruss reasoned that the local ATV club had put in enough thorough planning and that another committee or referral to the Plan Commission was unnecessary.
