The Northland Pines girls basketball team won its first conference championship in 26 years with a 47-37 victory over Mosinee last Thursday night.

The Eagles finished the Great Northern Conference (GNC) season with an 11-1 record, tied with Medford for first place. Northland Pines split with the Raiders during the regular season.

The Northland Pines girls basketball program got its last conference title back in 1987, when the Eagles, Medford and Ashland all were 10-2 in the former Lumberjack Conference. That Eagles team, under coach Tom Druschke, finished 19-4 overall after losing to Hayward in the Regional
