With good to excellent trail conditions in February, snowmobile ridership was up but so were accidents in Vilas County, according to a report provided to the county Snowmobile Trail Safety Committee last week.
The total number of accidents reported to the Vilas County Sheriff’s Department for all of December and January was only five, but that included one death. That jumped to 24 accidents in February, several of which involved broken legs.
