|Vilas panel rejects sponsorship of Stewardship grant for bike trail|

A request to have Vilas County sponsor a Department of Natural Resources Stewardship grant for construction of a bicycle trail between Conover and Phelps was denied last week by the county Forestry & Land Committee.
The proposed project would be the second segment of the former railroad grade from Muskrat Creek to Song Hill Road and cost an estimated $385,000, according to county board supervisor Loren Johnson of Phelps.“We need a government sponsor and Phelps
