Vilas takes first step in combining panels

Three Vilas County committees would be combined into a new public works committee as a first step in restructuring all standing committees under a proposal  considered by the county Legislative & Judicial Committee last week.

Some supervisors have supported reducing the current 22 standing committees to just seven, plus an Executive Committee.

County Clerk Dave Alleman drafted a proposal for the committee that would combine the Highway, Forestry and Public Property committees into a Public Works Committee of seven supervisors appointed by the board chairman. Presently, Highway Committee
