Vilas needs hefty fines for roadside littering PDF Print E-mail

Letter to the Editor:

Time for signs, or is it a sign of the times?

I am referring to the need for signs with a hefty fine for littering along the country roads or roadsides anywhere.

I doubt it would help, but it is appalling how lazy and disgusting people are with absolutely no regard for the beauty of this North Woods.

It is evident they feel it is OK to throw their garbage and liquor bottles, beer/soda cans and anything else they won’t take home. I cannot imagine no one has trash cans in or outside of their home. The local stores have very inexpensive trash cans that anyone could afford.

Vilas County promotes tourism, but why would anyone want to come up here and look at the trash along the roadsides while they are biking or perhaps running in one of the local marathons or just sightseeing.

Why should the people who really care about the cleanliness and beauty of the North Woods have to be the ones to pick up your garbage? Here’s your sign.
