|Vilas panel OKs altering forest plan for fiber-optic cable|

The Vilas County Forestry, Recreation and Land Committee approved amending the county forest 15-year plan in a meeting last week, allowing private utility service lines to access across the county forest and establishing a $250 fee.
ChoiceTel of Eagle River requested access to bury a fiber-optic cable across approximately 1.8 miles of county land from East Star Lake Road to Buckatabon Road using McLeod Road to provide high-speed Internet service to Camp Ramah.
The present language in the forest plan for private access showed a fee of $1 per foot, which would have cost $9,500 and would be too expensive for the company.Two alternatives were considered:
