A grant application to fund a school resource officer for the Northland Pines School District was approved by the Vilas County Board at its first evening meeting in St. Germain last week.
The application seeks participation in hiring an officer through Community Orientated Policing Services in the federal Department of Justice, according to Chief Deputy Joe Fath of the Vilas County Sheriff’s Department.
“This program places an officer primarily at Northland Pines High School for three years and is funded by 75% federal funds with 25% local funds,” Fath told the board. “Northland Pines has agreed to fund the position for nine months, including fringe benefits
