|City Council gives preliminary OK to extend bike trail|

A proposal by Great Headwaters Trails (GHT) to bring the Three Eagle Trail bicycle route across highways 45 and 70 at the Dairy Queen to the downtown area was given preliminary approval by the Eagle River City Council last week.
The first phase of the project would change the direction of traffic in two parking lots west of Railroad Street, add parking spaces to those lots and provide a dedicated bike trail up to Division Street.
While the discussion first focused on costs of vehicle wheel stops and new striping in the two parking lots, a proposal to cross Highway 45 North at the present snowmobile trail crossing at Riverview Park ran into opposition by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) and city council.Gary Meister of GHT told the council the organization
