Woman found guilty after stealing $28,500

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen recently announced that Michelle R. Popenhagen, 41, of Arbor Vitae has entered pleas of no contest to three counts of misdemeanor theft from her former employer, Save More Food Markets Inc. of Minocqua.

Iron County Circuit Judge Patrick Madden accepted the pleas and found Popenhagen guilty of those offenses.

According to the original complaint, investigators documented that Popenhagen retained $28,500 of store funds and attempted to avoid detection by making false entries in store records.

A sentencing hearing will be scheduled before Judge Madden,
