Phyllis ‘Tillie’ Birch PDF Print E-mail

Phyllis “Tillie” Birch of Estes Park, Colo., formerly of  Eagle River, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Prospect Park Living Center in Estes Park. She was 93.

Mrs. Birch was born Aug. 15, 1919, in Chicago, Ill., to parents Edwin and Stella (Hollen) Valkenaar.

She attended North Park College in Illinois, and was active in the Eagle River business community.

She developed a printing company, interior design company, and most recently was an award-winning realtor in the San Francisco Bay area.

Mrs. Birch was a lifelong follower of the Christian Science faith, and later became a Stephen Minister at the Evangelical Free Church of Walnut Creek, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Audrey Evans.

Survivors include her daughter, Wendye Birch-Sykes; partner, Shelley Powers of Estes Park; husband, Kenny of San Diego; son, Randy of Eagle River; brother, Jack (Betty) Valkenaar of Pompano Beach, Fla.;  and two granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held for close friends and family in Eagle River.

Phyllis was probably the most gracious woman I ever met. Always kind, with a positive loving nature.
