Ruffed grouse drumming counts remain steady in North Woods

Rest of state 
shows decline,
reports DNR

While ruffed grouse populations statewide appeared to  take another slight decline this spring — according to results of the recently completed Wisconsin roadside ruffed grouse survey — the North Woods showed a slight increase.

“The index that Wisconsin uses to track ruffed grouse decreased 9% between 2012 and 2013,” said Brian Dhuey, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) wildlife surveys coordinator.
