|Vilas rejects first attempt at consolidation|
By Ken Anderson
After months of work by the Vilas County Legislative & Judicial Committee — in consultation with the Highway and Forestry & Land committees — on combining duties under a new Public Works Committee, the Vilas County Board rejected the recommendation to consolidate those responsibilities in its meeting last week.
While 12 supervisors voted to combine committee duties, the resolution needed two-thirds support, or 14 votes, to pass and therefore was defeated.
The vote, at least temporarily, delays reducing the 22 county board committees, which a consulting firm was paid $60,000 to study the consolidation proposal.Supervisor Mark Rogacki objected to the piecemeal
