DOT reports 58 fatalities during June

With 58 fatalities in 56 Wisconsin traffic crashes, last month currently ranks tied for the ninth safest June in terms of traffic deaths since the end of World War II, according to preliminary statistics from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT).

The safest June in terms of traffic deaths occurred in 1946 with 45 fatalities, while the deadliest was in 1956 with 115 fatalities.

Traffic fatalities last month were the same as June 2012, and one greater than the five-year average for the month of June.

As of June 30, a total of 224 people have died
