Cloverland adopts sex offender ordinance
By Ken Anderson
News Correspondent

The Cloverland Town Board unanimously adopted an ordinance last week that limits the location and number of persons convicted of sexual offenses who can reside in certain areas of the town frequented by children.

The action comes after the Department of Corrections (DOC) placed Steven Burgess in a home on Chickaree Lake Road off River Road in Cloverland.

Burgess, 47, of Lac du Flambeau, pleaded guilty of second-degree sexual assault of a child in April, 1995, after one count of first-degree sexual assault was dismissed. Burgess went on to serve his sentence for the crime and moved to Cloverland in July 2012.
