Rock the River 2013 to replace Mud Fest PDF Print E-mail

Rock the River 2013 will replace Mud Fest as the name of the second annual rock concert at the Derby Track in Eagel River, set for Saturday, Aug. 24, from noon to 11 p.m.

“The only way to make this grow was to take on corporate sponsorship and the main way to get that was to change the name to something a bit catchier,” said  Rock the River promoter Martin Atkins. “Thus — we went with a name that characterizes the area and the event. Rock the River it is and forever shall be.”

The first Eagle River rock festival in 2012 attracted more

than 4,300 people, according to a music fest spokesperson, but there’s expectations that the festival will grow. This year’s event will benefit Angel on My Shoulder.

“Although we lost money last year, the two largest concert promoters in the industry said the little amount we lost meant it was an extraordinary success for a first-year event,” said Atkins. “As a result of that, they have been giving us quite a huge hand as they see the longevity and massive growth potential of this event. With their help, we secured some big name talent for 2013 and a lot of it.”

The music festival this year will feature two full stages. According to festival organizers, the main stage has grown to one of the largest mobile stages in the world.

“This was required because our headliner is requiring five semis and two large trailers of production,” said Atkins. “The side stage will be by the Expo Hall at the Derby on the hill and will feature some up and coming and large regional acts.”

The main stage headliner will be announced Sunday, July 21.

“We are contractually forbidden from announcing the headliner until July 21,” said Atkins. “We promise you it’s huge, in fact, it can’t get much bigger,” said the spokesperson.

The remaining main state lineup includes IAmDynamite, The Halo Method, Hawthorne Heights and James Durbin.

The side stage lineup features GoFight, I:Scintilla, Model Stranger, Dead on TV and Nudge.
