Phil Brandner of Eagle River died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Rennes Health and Rehab Center of Rhine­lander. He was 92.

Mr. Brandner was born April 11, 1921, in Elcho to parents Arthur and Madge Brandner.

He owned and operated Brandner’s Market & Grocery on Railroad Street. It was family owned from 1928 to 1991, previously operated by his father, Art.

Mr. Brandner served as an alderman on the Eagle River City Council, as well as the county board and the town of Washington board.

He was a member of the Eagle River Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Brandner served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jean Zache.

Survivors include his wife, Irma; son, Dr. Richard (Ann) Brandner of Eagle River; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held July 19 at  Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River.

Memorials can be made to the Walter Olson Memorial Library or the Eagle River Historical Society.

I first met Mr. Bradner at his grocery store in 1970. Although only a summer resident, I enjoyed every encounter with this kind, gentle and friendly man.

So sorry to hear of your father's passing, my thoughts are with you and your mother. Dad was a wonderful person, I always enjoyed talking with him whenever we would cross paths.
