|Vilas panel to keep custodial staff, but favors contracting out some work|

With a reduction in custodial staff from six to three by the voluntary reduction in force last December, the Vilas County Public Property Committee rejected total outsourcing those duties to private firms last week.
The new proposal calls for separate maintenance and custodial contracts, but allows the current employees to keep their positions.Two weeks ago, Supervisor Jim Behling argued to turn over all county custodial and maintenance work to private companies who submitted proposals, however Supervisor Gary Peske said there was enough downsizing in county staff and defended keeping the three department employees.
