Vilas officials have questions on autopsies

Members of the Vilas County  Finance Committee questioned the cost and number of autopsies requested  by Vilas County Coroner Paul Tirpe in 2012 during its meeting last week.

Tirpe approved 39 autopsies out of 221 Vilas County deaths in 2012, costing the county $70,000.

During the same period, Oneida County had 35 autopsies out of 370 deaths and Langlade County had only six autopsies out of  220 deaths.

While Tirpe requested $138,000 for the coroner’s office
