Over 200 miles of power lines to be buried in Vilas, Oneida

Maybe, just maybe, fewer North Woods residents will lose electrical power the next time a wind or ice storm raises havoc in Vilas, Oneida and Forest counties.

That’s because Wisconsin Public Service Corp. (WPS)  received approval Friday from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin for a five-year, $220 million system modernization and reliability project to convert more than 1,000 miles of overhead electric distribution lines to underground.
