|James ‘Jim’ Nier|
James “Jim” Nier, age 66, a resident of Eagle River, Wis., since 1994, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain, Mich.
He was born in Aurora, Ill., to parents, Donald “Red” and Florence “Flo” Nier.
Jim was in the Army from 1966 to 1968, where he served in Vietnam as a Green Beret and was awarded a purple heart and an Army Commendation Medal for his service.Jim married his wife, Holly, in Lahaina, Maui, on May 2, 1981.
He enjoyed driving his pontoon on the Chain, golfing, snowmobiling and riding his Harley. Jim was an active member of the VFW and American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Donald and Bill Nier.
Jim is survived by his wife of 32 years, Holly Nier, of Eagle River; daughter, Jenna (Tom) Collins of Eagle River; son, Matthew Nier, of Eagle River; brother, Bruce (Debra) Nier of Plainfield, Ill.; soon-to-be-born granddaughter, Ellie Elizabeth Collins; and numerous other family and friends.
Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, until time of memorial service at 4:30 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Eagle River.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to the American Cancer Society (www.donate.cancer.org/).
