Extending the length of employment for the current limited-term staff position in the Vilas County District Attorney’s office will go before the county board when it meets Tuesday, Aug. 27, after the county Personnel Committee supported the move last week.
If approved, it would be the third time the county has extended the position, having approved a six-month hiring in October 2012 and allowed a second six-month extension last April.
District Attorney Albert Moustakis is in the process of having his office go paperless and said he needed the extra help compiling the histories of cases referred to his office.
In 2008, there were 1,520 cases referred by law enforcement, 1,658 in 2009, 1,672 in 2010, 1,801 in 2011, 1,956 in 2012 and 948 from January through June of this year.
