Twelve candidates advance in Lac du Flambeau primary

The Lac du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians has announced the results of its primary election for tribal council Sept. 3, with 12 candidates advancing in three contests.

A field of 28 council member candidates has been reduced to eight for the general election Oct. 1, when four new board members will be elected.

The candidates advancing included: Henry “Butch” St. Germaine Sr., 167 votes; Alice Soulier, 154; Eric Chapman Sr., 129; Racquel Zortman-Ball, 125; Betty Jo Graveen, 122; Joseph Wildcat Sr., 113; Vivian “Luci” Wolfe, 85; and Terry “Fred” Allen, 83.

In the race for treasurer, Mary Peterson, with 264 votes,
