Grenade found at trailer park PDF Print E-mail

A hand grenade was located at Hiawatha Trailer Resort in Arbor Vitae last Friday and was taken to a remote location and safely detonated?by?the Oneida/Marathon County Bomb Squad, according to authorities.

The Vilas County Sheriff’s Department received a call from the owner of the trailer park at 1077 Old Highway 51 Road that a grenade was located on the property.

Deputies responded to discover that the grenade appeared to be damaged and in a deteriorating condition. A secure perimeter was cordoned off and mutual aid from the Oneida/Marathon County Bomb Squad was requested.

The?investigation revealed that the item appeared to be an MK2 fragmentation grenade from the Korean War era and it could not be deemed inert or safe therefore it was taken to the remote location to be detonated.
