|Let’s avoid another war|
Letter to the Editor:
Where were you?
A week ago last Wednesday, we met at the Vilas County Courthouse veterans memorial for a silent candlelit vigil to remember the atrocities that have occurred for the last two years in Syria. As a group of peace activists, we hoped that there would be no more military action in Syria. It was a solemn hour and then we talked about our impressions of our time at the veterans memorial. So many men died in all our wars or so-called wars based on false information.
Now we have some encouraging news from many countries. Yes, let’s get together and avoid another war or another “military strike.”
Have we not been through this before? Are we not going to learn from our past mistakes? Again we cannot force our democratic values into a country in the midst of a civil war. It is a hubris attitude to think we can actually influence a culture we cannot even imagine.
