Vilas would need three-fourths vote to borrow funds
By Ken Anderson
News Correspondent

The Vilas County Finance Committee tackled a wide range of issues last week that included borrowing to balance the 2014 budget, proposed salaries for county board supervisors, the travel budget and a News-Review editorial.

The committee is proposing a $13.7 million tax levy for next year, but to balance the budget the panel is proposing to take $1.6 million from the general fund and borrow $500,000.

The short-term borrowing of $500,000 will be voted on as part of the budget process by the county board at its meeting today, Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the board meeting in Manitowish Waters at 6:30 p.m.
