Muriel E. Leu “Mur,” 88, formerly of Conover, Wis., passed away Sept. 28, 2013, at her home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Chicago on Aug. 11, 1925, she and her husband, Art, purchased a home on Stormy Lake in 1973, and became permanent residents from 1983 through 1989.
An avid community supporter, she was a charter member of the Stormy Lake Homeowners Association and had served as its secretary.A volunteer at Eagle River Memorial Hospital with thousands of service hours, she also served as chairman of many committees and as president of that group.
She was a member of the Eagle River Ceramics Club, using her training there to produce many beautiful pieces, each proudly signed by her ceramics name, “Mel.”
She was an active member of the Land O’ Lakes Fish and Game Club.
An avid bridge player, she belonged to many ladies and couples bridge groups throughout the area.
She loved and enjoyed the North Woods, learning to snowmobile, cross-country ski, trail hiking, boating, sailing and dining out with her many friends.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Art; three children, Patricia Webb (Tom) of Charleston, Ill., Susan Waryck of Schaumberg, Ill., and Donald (Lucy) of Port Orchard, Wash.; five grandchildren, Jennie Uhrine (John) of Conover, Douglas (Alanna) Webb of Willoughby, Ohio, Ann Tester (Dan) of Witt, Ill., and Jamie Waryck of Rodondo Beach, Calif.; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Mason Point Chapel, Sullivan, Ill., on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013. at 1:30 p.m.
