Library gets $1.6 million for project

Tawani Foundation grant
lifts Olson drive past goal

Walter E. Olson Memorial Library officials announced last week that the Olson Library renovation and expansion project has received a $1.6 million grant from Tawani Foundation of Chicago.

The grant, to be paid over a period of five years, combined with almost $1 million  in community donations and pledges, brings the campaign to its goal and will permit the project to move forward to the construction phase, library officials said Friday.

Tawani Foundation is the philanthropic arm of retired Illinois Army National Guard Lt. Col. J.N. Pritzker of Chicago. The Pritzker family has had a presence in the North Woods for more than 80 years and considers the Eagle River area a second home.
