Over $375,000 coming here for AIS treatment, lake plans

Minocqua lakes
are bypassed
in grant cycle

A total of nine aquatic species (AIS) control grants and one lake planning grant for waters in Vilas and Oneida counties have won state approval, officials said Monday.

Kevin Gauthier, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) lakes biologist for the Northern Region, said not as many local projects were approved in this grant cycle, but plenty of dollars are still coming in to help lake groups control AIS.

“We received roughly $354,000 in AIS control  grants,” said Gauthier, “and another $24,000 for planning grants, but unfortunately Minocqua/Kawaguesaga lakes in Oneida County were not selected for a Eurasian water milfoil control project.”
