While the county floodplain zoning ordinance was up for adoption at last week’s Vilas County Board meeting, supervisors decided to delete a section of the rule directed at the Tamarack Flowage in the town of Conover.
Supervisor Loren Johnson, who sits on the county’s Zoning Committee, asked supervisors to amend the floodplain zoning ordinance that already went to a public hearing. The amendment was then approved on a 10-5 vote and the floodplain zoning ordinance was approved 13-2.Johnson said the Tamarack Flowage dam was legally built in 1942 and failed in 1943.
