The Vilas County Board adopted a 2014 budget on an 11-4 vote last week that calls for $33.3 million in expenditures and that is supported by a property tax levy of $13,709,139 — an increase of 4.3%.
While the levy increase is $569,644, the county board also applied $1,520,953 from the general fund and approved short-term borrowing of $500,000 to balance the $33,355,278 million budget.
The 2013 budget was $29,010,744 and the 2013 levy was $13,073,440. Last year, the county board took $637,095 from the county unencumbered general fund to buy down the levy.
