John Lakso, a 20-year resident of Phelps and formerly of Amasa, Mich., died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at his home. He was 78.
Mr. Lakso was born Oct. 27, 1935, in Iron River, Mich., to Uno and Edna Lakso.He worked as a logger for many years, and was a spray painter at a factory in Minneapolis, Minn. He also worked for the towns of Land O’ Lakes and Phelps.
Mr. Lakso served in the U.S. Army. His interests included hunting, nature and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, LaVerne (née Pete) of Phelps; one daughter, Karen Carlson of Conover; one son, John of Conover, one sister, Doris (Ollie) Linna of Marquette, Mich.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Nov. 4 at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River.
