Phelps to Conover trail project gets boost with $90,000 in funds
By Sharon Gifford
Phelps Correspondent

Phelps Town Chairman Colin Snook recently signed a 50/50 grant agreement that will result in $90,000 for trail development without any cost to Phelps community members.

Great Headwaters Trails (GHT) originally wrote a $216,000 grant application to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) state stewardship program, and the application was sponsored by the town of Phelps.

Out of 15 applications, Phelps came in fourth, resulting in a denial. However, DNR?officials decided the project qualified for the federal Recreational Trails Aids Program, which awarded GHT?$45,000.

Those funds will be matched with $20,300 of state Snowmobile Program
