Residents urged to be vigilant with fire safety during holidays

The Vilas County Fire Chiefs Association is urging residents to be extra vigilant in their fire safety practices during the holiday season, a time when unique hazards are introduced into the home.

One example is the in­creased use of candles, which if left unattended, can lead to incidents like the recent residential fire in Racine that claimed the lives of three children.
