Snowmobiling helps drive winter economy in North PDF Print E-mail

Letter to the Editor:

As my family and I were enjoying a snowmobile ride on virgin snow in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest on Christmas Eve day, I thought of how this economic engine for the North Woods comes together for us to enjoy.

The numerous volunteers from the many snowmobile clubs who are responsible for raising money and providing hundreds of donated manpower hours to groom the trails, to the businesses who support the clubs with their donations and to the taxpayers of Wisconsin who financially support the grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

It all comes together when the resorts, motels, bars, taverns, restaurants and other merchants enjoy the sound of ringing registers during a holiday week that has been too often lost due to warm weather and lack of snow.

This week, Vilas County is truly a winter wonderland.
